Established in 1959, the Yonsei University Institute of Korean is Korea's first specialized institution for teaching Korean as a foreign language. Based on self-developed standard textbooks and a precise eight-level curriculum, we provide academic and systematic instruction. Regular course

  • The regular course is an educational program for foreigners and overseas Koreans who are interested in the Korean language and culture and wish to learn Korean.
    This is a suitable curriculum for foreigners planning to study Korean for various purposes, such as entering university or graduate school in Korea, finding employment, or learning Korean as a leisure activity.

  • The majority of students wishing to study Korean at the Korean Language Institute apply for this course, and an average of 1,700 students from about 60 countries enroll every semester.

  • The regular course is offered as a 10-week program per semester, with a total of 200 hours per semester and four semesters per year.

  • It is conducted in morning and afternoon sessions and is designed to match the TOPIK levels; if you start at Level 1, it takes approximately 1 year and 6 months to complete all 6 levels up to Level 6.

  • Regular 'Morning' Course: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM

  • Regular 'Afternoon' Course: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–5:50 PM
